Dreams Come True

“You can go as far as you dream, think and imagine,” said author, Lailah Akita.

This couldn’t be truer for 11 year old Jess Theisen of Becker. In fact, her dream was right across the road.

Jess is the daughter of Todd and Stacie Theisen. She recently completed fifth grade with honors. Jess was recognized as, “Student of the Month” and received the “Kindness” award.

Jess was there to greet this reporter as I came to the Lazy K Ranch, owned by Carol and Bill Kolbinger. The ranch is right across the road from her house.

She was dressed in authentic western wear with her Wrangler jeans and cowboy boots. Most importantly, she wore a great smile.

We watched the horses come in from the pasture. Jess gazed upon her horse and reached out to touch her.

“I have always loved horses ever since I was little,” beamed Jess.  “I started taking riding lessons when I was five.”

Back in May, Stacie and Jess would watch out their window as the horses went by. Stacie suggested going over and getting to know their neighbors. A friendship of the best kind was made.

Jess frequently went over to Carol and Bill’s. It wasn’t just for the horses, but to spend time with them. She started helping with feeding in the evening. Jess was learning more about horses first hand.

“There is something about a young girl and a horse,” Carol said. “You can tell who will stay with them and for who, is just a fad. We knew Jess was going to be the one who would stay.”

Carol and Bill talked it over and felt Jess should have her own horse and so it came to be. “Bella,” as she has affectionately been named.

The surprise was unveiled and a moment of a lifetime happened. Jess walked through the door at home, crying.

“What is wrong?” Stacie asks her.

“These are happy tears, my horse will be there tomorrow,” she said. “I am so thankful and cannot believe my dream came true. This horse will be my everything.”

Since getting the horse last week (August 5), Jess has been over to the Kolbinger’s ranch multiple times throughout the day. According to Jess, Carol and Bill have become her adopted grandparents.

Carol told this reporter that her and Jess were going to a horse show the next weekend. She thought this would be good for her and she can learn some things. And, it will be fun.

“What do you love most about horses and Bella?” this reporter asked Jess.

“I see the kindness in their eyes and I see the love in Bella’s when she looks at me,” she replied.  “I have never loved something so much.”

“Never give up on your dreams,” said Jess. “Anything is possible. I never stopped hoping or believing. I never thought it would happen this way,”

There you have it, from a wise 11 year old. Dreams can become a reality, just ask Jess.
