Clearwater Rodeo packs the stands

Friday’s rain stopped just in time for the start of the 42nd annual Clearwater Rodeo, and excitement was high as spectators of all ages packed the stands.

Presented by the Silver Bullet Saddle Club (SBSC), the three day event was held last weekend, with shows Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

During the TBRA Rodeo performances each day, the adult competitors wowed the crowds with bronc riding, steer wrestling, breakaway roping, tie down roping, team roping, barrel racing, and bull riding.

Youngsters also had the chance to be part of the rodeo. Each performance included a mutton bust for kids ages 5-7 and a calf ribbon race for kids ages 6-12.

Just before the start of Friday’s performance, a member of the well-known Budweiser Clydesdales was paraded through the arena for the crowd to admire. Although the entire Clydesdale team had been scheduled to appear, the muddy conditions made it unsafe.

The center act for all three performances was 14-year old trick rider and trick shooter Sophie Duch.

Dances followed the Friday and Saturday evening performances, with Bourdon Creek entertaining the crowds Friday and Hitchville on Saturday. Saturday also featured a BBQ meal with all the trimmings.

Sunday was Kids’ Day and kicked off with a non-denominational cowboy church service at 10 a.m., followed by special fun and activities for kids 12 and under, including a petting zoo, free pony rides, games, and a chance to win a raffle drawing. Sunday’s rodeo performance began at 2 p.m.
