Clear Lake council hires new clerk

The Clear Lake City Council met Tuesday evening, with a lengthy agenda including several personnel decisions.

The council moved unanimously to hire a new City Clerk in Tami Loff, who has experience in a similar position.  Loff will start employment on September 17.

Meanwhile, council rejected a counter-offer from their Public Works Director candidate and instead opted to re-post the position for another three week window.

The Church Street parking issue was resolved with a motion to prohibit parking on the south side of the street for a portion of the roadway and on both sides of the street where their are also mailboxes on both sides.

Mayor Tim Goenner will continue to work with the Post Office on a resolution that would move several mailboxes, thus allowing a more consistent pattern to the no parking zone.

Fire Chief Ron Koren reported on last month’s 16 calls for service, and he also noted that the Board of Trustees and Fire Department membership had approved the new $3,800 per year retirement benefit.  The city will continue to work with legal counsel in reviewing the fire department contract.

The annual Open House is scheduled for October 5 and will again include a variety of activities focusing on fire safety and prevention.

Council also gave unanimous approval to an expansion plan for Royal Renovations, which will include a new building which will be similar in size and structure to the Eddie’s Auto Repair building.  The company is planning a groundbreaking to coincide with its 25th anniversary celebration on September 28 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Parkside Development representative Jay Roos was at the meeting and discussed an agreement made between the company and the city for the drainage plan near the south end of the development.  With the language agreed upon, the developer will stockpile clean fill that can be used to change the grade level in the future.

During the public participation portion of the meeting, a resident brought up the concern about vehicles violating the “no turn on red” signs on Highways 10 and 24.  Possible alterations to the signage were discussed and the SCSO will be asked to patrol the area.

In final action, the council re-scheduled the November meeting and it will now be held on October 29 in order to accommodate election set-up for the General Election.
