Chamber Giving Back To The Community

The Becker Chamber of Commerce gave $2,500 back to the community to aid three important local charities.

Backpack Buddies, the Becker Food Shelf and the Becker Area Senior Center all received $833 that was profit held over from the latest Business Exposition.
The Becker Backpack Buddies is a mission is to reduce the effects of childhood hunger by providing nutritious, easy- to- prepare meals over the weekends to children in food-insecure homes in the Becker area.

The Becker Food Shelf is a non-profit 501(C) charitable foundation that provides food and other goods to residents of Becker School District 726.  It was formed in the 1980’s by four of the main religious denominations then in Becker (Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist and Methodist churches), in an effort to provide food to families in need.

The Becker Area Senior Center opened in September and is located at city hall. Denice Frieh and Carol Brunn head up the organization that is designed to be a destination for seniors who are looking for socialization, a place to have coffee, read a book or play cards. BASC hopes to serve any older adults in the school district and surrounding areas including Palmer, Santiago, Becker and Clear Lake townships.

The Becker Chamber of Commerce has a new office manager in Lynette Brannan. She took over for Elaine Brustad who resigned in January.

Brannan has been a business owner for over 30 years and has been involved with the chamber under the leadership of Brustad, Julie Brandt and Kim Schmitz for many years.

Brannan is also a current Becker City Council member.

On the horizon, the chamber has their annual golf tournament at Pebble Creek July 24. More information on the event will be disclosed at a later date. Also, the chamber will conduct their annual “Welcome New Teachers” event Aug. 13 at the middle school.

The Becker Area Chamber of Commerce is organized to advance the general welfare and prosperity of the Becker area, so that its citizens and all areas of its business community shall prosper.
