BPD Officer injured on welfare check

On Saturday, Oct. 29 at approximately 4:37 p.m., Becker Police Officers were dispatched to a series of calls regarding a welfare check. The check ultimately led officers to a residence on the 11000 block of 35th Ave., Becker.

While officers were investigating the request, an intoxicated male at the residence became belligerent and attacked a Becker Police Officer. With the assistance of other officers, the aggressive male was ultimately subdued and taken into custody. A Becker Police officer was injured during the arrest and sustained a possible broken hand.

The male taken into custody was identified as Marty Melvin Henry Johann (35), of Becker. He was transported to the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Jail and booked in on the following charges: 4th Degree Assault of a Police Officer, Threats of Violence.

Deputies from the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
