Parents and students converged on Becker High School Wednesday afternoon for the annual open house, which included tours of the facility, an opportunity to meet teachers, locate classrooms and find lockers, as well as housekeeping details such as signing up for activities, setting up lunch accounts and purchasing parking permits.
The annual meeting for freshmen and parents took place in the Performing Arts Center, the lavish new facility which easily handled the large audience which made the sessions held in the old auditorium in previous years a standing-room-only event.
Classes for freshmen will begin Tues., Sept. 8 with a shortened classroom program followed by a series of orientation events including an activity fair and meetings with senior leaders and advisors. All other grades will report for class Wed., Sept. 9, which will include a half-day classroom program, followed by a presentation by motivational speaker Kyle Scheele and meetings with advisors and class meetings in the afternoon. Class photos will be taken on both days.
Homecoming activities will begin immediately, with students able to vote for royalty candidates on the first full day of classes. The candidates will be formally introduced to the student body at an assembly at 2:15 p.m. on Fri., Sept. 11, and the Homecoming Coronation will take place Thursday, Sept. 17 at 2:05 p.m.
The annual Powder Puff football game, the fiercely-fought contest between the senior and junior girls, will kick-off at 3:15 p.m. Fri., Sept. 18, and will be played on the BHS field or the practice field, depending on the weather.
Auditions for the fall BHS musical “The Wizard of Oz” will also take place during the first week of school, with times to be announced.
The BHS Activities Dept. is offering a Family Punch Card for $75, which is good for 20 admissions to school athletic events. Students in grades 7-12 can purchase a Dog Pound Pass for $60, which is good for admission to all regular-season athletic events.
