A rally to support the Becker Education Association position in the on-going contract negotiations with the school district drew a large crowd of teachers to the BHS parking lot Monday afternoon in advance of the regular school board meeting later that evening.
The lot was busy with BEA members, their spouses and children, and a number of special guests, including Education Minnesota Vice-President Paul Mueller, BEA field representative Darrell Baty and teachers from surrounding school districts, including Monticello, Elk River, Albany and Foley.
The rally attendees were entertained by BHS student Joe Perry, who sang and played his guitar while the picnic lunch was served. The event also features speeches by Mueller and BEA President Eric Austin, both of whom urged the union membership to stay active in pressing for an acceptable new contract.
As the rally concluded, many of the BEA members and their supporters adjourned to the BHS media center to attend the school board meeting, many holding the “I Am A Stakeholder” signs that were passed out during the rally.
