MEMORIAL DAY HONORS. The Honor Guard from the Becker American Legion Post 193 retired the Colors at the conclusion of the 2013 Memorial Day observances at Becker Cemetery. Six services are planned for local cemeteries this year, with a Memorial Day dinner sponsored by the Legion served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Becker Community Center.

Becker Area Memorial Day Observances Set

The Becker American Legion Post 193 will conduct six services in honor of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, beginning with an observance at the Elk River Bridge on Cty. Rd. 24 (8:30 a.m.), followed by services at the Snake River Cemetery (9:00 a.m.), Santiago Cemetery (Reeds) (9:30 a.m.), South Santiago Lutheran Cemetery (10:00 a.m.), Danetown Cemetery (10:30 a.m.) and the Becker Cemetery (11:00 a.m.).

All local residents and visitors to the area are invited to attend any of the scheduled services.  Volunteers from the American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary will serve a Memorial Day dinner at the Becker Community Center from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the Honor Guard served first immediately after the services at the Becker Cemetery are concluded.  Turkey and ham and “all the trimmings” are on the menu, and tickets prices are $9 for adults, $4 for children ages 5-12, and children five and under are served free of charge.
 
Ticket price for all veterans is $4 with proof of service at the door (American Legion membership card, VFW membership card or discharge papers.).
