Editor’s Note: The following article was acquired via the Wright County Watch MN website.

On February 23, 2025, at approximately 5:34 p.m., Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy Jusczak responded to the Getaway Bar located on 184th Street NW, within the City of Big Lake (Orrock Twp.), Sherburne County, Minnesota, on a report of an assault.

En route, dispatch advised the caller stated a drunk male assaulted another customer. He was described as a white male, 60 years old, white beard, wearing a brown jacket and brown hat. Dispatch advised the caller advised the male had now exited the bar and was departing in what was described as a Chevy pickup truck, MN plate FBN***. An assisting deputy indicated the plate number registered to a Jeep Compass and asked for any further updates but dispatch indicated there were none.

As Deputy Jusczak traveled northbound on 184th Street NW towards the Getaway Bar, he observed a black Dodge RAM 1500 approaching him at approximately 55 mph. As the truck passed, Deputy Jusczak noted the license plate, MN SBM***, closely matched the suspect’s reported plate.

Deputy Jusczak completed a U-turn and pursued the vehicle, activating his squad radar to obtain the vehicle’s speed, now directly in front of him. The radar showed the suspect vehicle was traveling 104 mph. As the vehicle continued at an excessive speed, it approached the intersection of 184th Street NW and 313th Avenue NW. Deputy Jusczak was aware the defendant would have a stop sign at this intersection. At a distance of approximately 100 yards, Deputy Jusczak observed the vehicle run the stop sign at speeds exceeding 100mph. At a distance of approximately 50 yards, Deputy Jusczak observed the vehicle overtook another vehicle at speeds over 100mph just before reaching 321st Avenue. Prior to crossing into Mille Lacs County, the deputy activated his emergency lights as the vehicle continued at speeds exceeding 100mph. Shortly thereafter, 184th Street NW became 160th Avenue in Mille Lacs County.

At the intersection of 160th Avenue and 25th Street, the vehicle slammed on its brakes. The deputy stopped approximately ten yards behind the suspect vehicle, with the squad’s emergency lights still activated. The driver, later identified as HANSEN, DOB 1955, from Princeton, the defendant herein, shifted the vehicle into reverse and with the right rear of his truck collided with the front driver’s side of the deputy’s squad, causing damage to the squad with an estimated repair and replacement cost more than $1,000. The defendant placed the vehicle into drive and accelerated rapidly, causing the tires to screech, as he continued northbound on 160th Avenue. Deputy Jusczak pursued the vehicle.

After approximately 2.5 miles, the defendant entered a driveway with a roundabout design. Deputy Jusczak positioned his squad such that it hindered the defendant’s exit. Deputy Jusczak anticipated the defendant was going to hit his squad head-on given the prior collision. The defendant stopped approximately five feet before striking the squad, opened his door and exited the vehicle, yelling as he approached Deputy Jusczak. Given the flee and assault with his vehicle, Deputy Jusczak exited, drew his duty weapon and pointed it at the defendant, commanding him to get on the ground. The defendant disregarded the orders. Both hands were visible free of weapons and the defendant shut his truck door. Deputy Jusczak holstered his weapon, drew his taser, and informed the defendant would be tased if he failed to get on the ground. The defendant complied and was handcuffed as he continued to yell, argue and use profanity.

The defendant asked which county Deputy Jusczak worked for, to which he responded “Sherburne”. The defendant stated, “You didn’t turn on your lights until you were in….”. and did not finish the sentence. As the defendant was handcuffed and searched incident to arrest, he continued yelling and cursing at Deputy Jusczak. At one point, the defendant shouted that others were accusing him of inappropriately touching someone at the bar. Deputy Jusczak detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the defendant as he spoke. Deputy Jusczak observed the defendant swaying and cautioned him to slow down, expressing his concern the defendant may fall. The defendant shouted, “I’m not swaying. You’re making things up.” During transport to the Sherburne County Jail, the defendant intermittently yelled and cursed at Deputy Jusczak, demanding he remove the handcuffs so he could engage in a physical altercation. Due to the defendant’s conduct, Deputy Jusczak was unable to obtain a preliminary breath test.

Sherburne County Deputy Reasoner responded to the bar and spoke with M.S. and his adult daughter, E.M. During a recorded statement with E.M., she advised she works at the Getaway Bar as a server. During her shift tonight, a male customer had touched her stomach and asked if she was pregnant. The male had a long, grey beard, and was wearing a brown or black fedora. E.M. told her coworkers and texted her family about the incident. E.M. stated the male also told her that he loved her. When M.S. picked up E.M. from work, he asked which customer touched her and she indicated who the male was. M.S. went back inside and confronted the male, who became agitated, stood up from his chair and struck M.S. in the face. M.S. pushed the male over and another male intervened to break up the fight.
