Another Active Year For Tech Students

St. Cloud Tech High School has had a busy year in the activities department. Tech sent quite a few athletes to state and even crowned one state champion - the gymnastics team.

Here is a recap of activities through the end of the winter season.

The football team finished the season at 3-6. The team played hard and had to deal with some injuries that hurt the team. With many underclassmen back, look for the team to be a serious contender next year.

The volleyball team finished 13-13 overall and 7-5 in the Central Lakes Conference, good for third place.  They beat Brainerd in the opening round of playoffs, but fell to #1 seed, Moorhead in the quarterfinals. The team made improvements throughout the season.

The girls tennis team had a great season.  The team clinched their fourth CLC title in a row and their 24th overall. They qualified for the state tournament and finished as consolation champions.  They lost to 19-time defending state champions Edina, 6-1. They defeated Delano and Rochester Mayo to win the consolation title.

The team had three athletes qualify for the state individual tournament.  Seventh grader Ashley Tarrolly won the section singles title.  She lost her matches at state, but gained valuable experience.   Sisters Taylor and Katelyn Tarrolly teamed up to win the section doubles title and also qualified for the state tournament.  They finished as the state runners-up, falling to another sister team from Benilde-St. Margaret’s.  They finished higher than any other Tech individuals and both will be back next year.  It was a great accomplishment for them.

The boys soccer team had a tremendous year.  They made it to the state tournament and won in the quarter-finals, beating #3 seed Park Center, 2-0.  That game was played in snow, wind and cold, but the boys did a fantastic job.  They fell in the state semi-finals to East Ridge and then tied Minneapolis Washburn for third place.  It was a great year for the team.

The girls soccer team was young this year and they finished 2-15 overall.  They lose some good seniors, but will have a lot of girls back and will look to improve next season.

Both cross country teams had good seasons.  The athletes worked on improving their times.  Noah Webb qualified for the state tournament and took 121st.

The girls swimming and diving team finished fourth in the Section 8AA True Team Meet and third place in the CLC Championships.

The gymnastics team won the state championship. They defeated seven other teams at the U of M to be able to call themselves the best in state. Congratulations to all athletes and coaches!

The girls hockey team finished the regular season 9-3 in the CLC and 18-6-1 overall, which was good enough for second place in the conference.  They lost to River Lakes in sections.

The boys hockey team finished 9-6 in the CLC and 14-13 overall. They defeated Prairie Centre 16-0 in the first round of the sections and lost a very tough game to Sartell. They are also looking forward to next year.
