PROPOSED RESOLUTION NOTIFYING THE PUBLIC OF THE INTENT TO MAKE THE OFFICE OF SHERBURNE COUNTY TREASURER APPOINTED AND PROVIDING AN OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC COMMENT

Resolution No. 021726-AD-3269

WHEREAS, pursuant to Minnesota Statute 375A.1205 Subd. 2., the current Sherburne County Auditor-Treasurer has notified the County Board in writing that they will not be filing for another term; and

WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute section 375A.1205 provides a process for consideration in making certain county offices appointed upon receipt of such notice; and 

WHEREAS, Sherburne County has benefited from many years of dedicated and highly professional public service from those individuals serving in the positions of Auditor, Treasurer, and the combined position of Auditor-Treasurer, including from both the elected and appointed officials; and

WHEREAS, the Sherburne County Board acknowledges the growing and complex duties required of the County Auditor-Treasurer position and the skills and experience required to fulfill these myriads of statutory and regulatory requirements; and 

WHEREAS, the Sherburne County Board of Commissioners has acted to re-establish the separate positions of County Auditor and County Treasurer, pursuant to Minnesota Statute section 375A.12 Subd. 6.; and

WHEREAS, the Sherburne County Board of Commissioners intends to consider making the Office of Sherburne County Treasurer appointed; and

WHEREAS, the County Board must notify the public of its intent to make the Office of Sherburne County Treasurer appointed by publishing this resolution once a week for two consecutive weeks in the official publication of the County; and

WHEREAS, the Sherburne County Board must provide an opportunity for public comment related to appointing the Office of Sherburne County Treasurer; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Sherburne County Board of Commissioners intends to consider the appointment of the Office of Sherburne County Treasurer.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the required notice be published in the official newspaper of Sherburne County, on Thursday, February 19th, 2026, and Thursday, February 26th, 2026.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that notice is hereby given that public comment will be heard on the intent to appoint the Office of Sherburne County Treasurer at the Regular Meeting of the Sherburne County Board of Commissioners, to be held on March 3rd, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., or soon thereafter, in the County Board Room located in the Sherburne County Courthouse at 13880 Business Center Drive NW, Elk River, MN 55330.
