To The Editor

I want to thank Representative Jim Newberger and Senator Andrew Mathews for good legislative updates at the recent convention. They also highlighted concerns needful for people to address.

One paramount concern is a proposed federally controlled national identification card, erroneously called: “Real ID”. This “Federal ID” in “State Clothing” was soundly defeated in 2008 and a 2009 law prohibited state departments from participating in this unconstitutional federal commandeering of state authority.

Does the federal government and Department of Homeland Security truly need control of this Federal ID for national security? Our current photo ID system has long been used for international identification and can be improved without yielding state control.

Has the DHS demonstrated the credibility for this taking of state authority? Just in its brief history, they’ve sought to purchase ammunition to handle a 20 year domestic war that included internationally illegal hollow point bullets, they were recently reprimanded in congressional hearings for not deporting 66,000 “criminal aliens” once held in custody.

The best Homeland Security at home. Call and support our federal and state representatives to vote against this Federal ID, or to amend the bill with security enhancements retained under our state’s constitutional authority.
