With summer here and school ending more children are playing outside, especially smaller children who don't always look and listen when crossing roads. I would like to remind drivers to always put your phones away when driving. Give yourself extra time to reach your destination, and don't speed through neighborhoods to get where you're going. it's better to be late than to hit a child with your car. Drive slower and more cautiously when you see kids playing, OR when you see cars parked along the street: you never know when kids will come running into the street. Remember the speed limit is 30 mph in residential areas unless posted, however; it is always ok to drive slower than the posted speed when you see or think kids may be playing outside.
I am writing this as a concerned parent of two small kids. Last month, I let my 5 year old cross the street to put some letters in the mail, and had she not listened when I told her to stay where she was, she would have been hit by a driver speeding down our street to get her kids to school. I am frustrated with the way people drive down our street. Just about every house in our neighborhood has small kids and I would hate to see something happen because you, the driver, are too distracted, or in too much of a hurry, to pay attention to the world around you.
