Hospice Patient Support – Fairview Home Care and Hospice is looking for caring individuals who are willing to support those dealing with end of life issues and their families. Volunteers may provide respite for caregivers, companionship, run errands, prepare meals or do light housekeeping. Volunteers must successfully complete pre-service screening and training, then serve a minimum of 2 hours per week for 1 year. Contact Janell - jtibode1@Fairview.org – 612.728.2490.
Homeless Youth Drop-In Team – Open Doors for Youth is an afternoon drop-in center in Elk River for area homeless youth ages 16-21. On-Site Team members work directly with young people to provide a safe, warm and welcoming atmosphere for the youth who visit. The primary task of the volunteer is to be present for the youth to guide them through meeting their immediate needs of clothing, food and supportive conversation. When youth are not present volunteers assist with sorting donations, doing dishes, cleaning and office projects, as needed. Service shifts are 2-4 hours while the center is open: 2-6pm Monday - Friday. Center supervisors are present with volunteers. Training and ongoing support is provided.
