Be “BIG”! - Caring, qualified volunteer mentors are needed to “Bigs” through Big Brothers/Big Sisters.  Mentors meet with their “Littles” two to four times a month. Matches enjoy playing board games, bowling, going to movies, doing arts & crafts, playing sports, fishing, and many other fun activities.  There are opportunities to be a Big Brother, Big Sister, Big Couple or Big Family.  “Littles” are waiting in Becker, Big Lake, Clear Lake, Elk River, Monticello and Zimmerman.  Contact Emily - esteinmetz@bbbscentralmn.org 320-258-4515.

Free Tax Prep - Tri-CAP’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers free tax preparation and e-filing services to low-moderate income people who need assistance completing their tax returns.  Volunteers are needed both to prepare taxes and to serve in hospitality/customer service roles.  Volunteer Preparers receive free IRS Certification training to prepare basic tax returns.  This is a great asset on a resume.  For CPA’s the volunteer time also provides continuing professional education credits from the IRS.   Preparation sites for the tax season are located in St. Cloud, Elk River, and Cold Spring.  Contact Tri-CAP - tricaptaxes@tricap.org 320-257-4510.

Day Center Volunteer – Great River Family Promise, assisting local homeless families, needs volunteers to provide hospitality to families in the Day Center in Elk River on weekdays.  Hosting involves simply being present and interacting with family members for a 2 hour shift.  Volunteers may also need to answer the phone and take messages for staff to attend to. Volunteers must have good people skills and willing to be “task flexible” as the daily needs of families change.  Especially needed Thursdays 3-5 PM. Contact Nicki - vc@greatriverfamilypromise.org 763-441-9093.
