A group of people from Becker are gearing up to complete a week of home repairs for people in need this June. TeenServe, an Indiana based, non-profit corporation, along with local co-sponsors will be combining efforts to provide free home repairs for elderly, disabled and low-income residents during a one-week workcamp to be held from June 24-30.
Approximately 300 teens and adult leaders will be coming from all over the USA and will be staying at Becker High School for the duration of the workcamp . Six-person crews (at least one adult and five teens) will spend their days completing home repair or painting projects for the elderly or others who cannot complete the work themselves because of physical or financial need.
TeenServe will work on approximately 65 individual homes within a 25-mile radius of Becker High School, which includes all cities in Sherburne County and extending into Otsego, Monticello, Buffalo, Annandale and St. Cloud.
The local co-sponsor team is recruiting up to 125 volunteers to help at Becker High School during workcamp week. Volunteer opportunities include helping to serve morning and evening meals to participants, picking up and delivering materials to worksites, worksite prep work and finish work, and project troubleshooting.
Days and times of need, as well as volunteer descriptions can be found online at www.gracebecker.org. In addition, the local team is in need of 100 ladders of all sizes to use for workcamp week. If you have ladders you would be willing to loan the local team during the workcamp, please email beckerteen serve2018@gmail.com.
Financial contributions are still being accepted and the group is about $9,000 short of reaching their $25,000 goal to cover the cost of paint and project building materials.
If you are interested in volunteering, loaning your ladder to the local team or making a financial contribution to this event, please contact Kary Tillmann, Co-Sponsor Team Chair at 612-310-6514 or via email at beckerteenserve2018@gmail.com.
