The eighth annual Santiago Horseshoe Tournament will be held this Satuday, (June 6) at the courts near the Santiago ballpark.
Bob Knutson of Columbia Heights will be back to defend his championship. He has won the title for three consecutive years. Bob will get plenty of competition from Sig Armitage of Canby, as Sig carries the high ringer percentage in Minnesota of 71% ringers.
Henry Greenwaldt of Bertha, who won the tourney championship in 2011, will also be on hand. Classes C and D competition will begin at 9 a.m., and Classes A and B will start at 1 p.m.
The Santiago Horseshoe League started its 26th season May 11 with a new record number of 17 teams (34 pitchers) of 29 men and 5 women. This is the first year that all eight courts have been filled.
One league pitcher travels each Monday night from Coon Rapids and another comes from Avon. Over the upcoming Labor Day weekend, the Santiago Club will host the state tournament in Genola, along with the Morrison County and Rice Clubs.
Five horseshoe pitchers from the Santiago Club will be participating in the World Tournament in Topeka, KS during the last two weeks of July.
