Preschool Storytimes at Becker Library

- The Becker Public Library is offering a Preschool Storytime series for children ages 3 to 6 Tuesdays, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.,  April 1, 8, 15 and 22. Storytimes usually involve stories, songs and crafts to build kindergarten readiness in young children. There is no registration requirement.

Great River Regional Library (GRRL) provides library services at 32 public libraries in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright Counties. It provides Central Minnesota residents with nearly 1 million books, CDs and DVDs, 250 public computers, programming and information services.

Friends Of The Becker Library 
 
– Are having their Book and Media Sale at the Becker Library April 23-26. Donations are accepted up until the sale and can be left at the library during regular hours.
 
All proceeds from the sale go towards programs and special needs at the library. Weds, 2-6 p.m; Thurs., 2-8 p.m.; Fri, 2-5 p.m. and Sat., 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
 
 
Becker Legion And Auxiliary Meeting 
 
– Is the second Wednesday of every month at 8 p.m.
 
 
Clear Lake Legion and Auxiliary

Monticello Cancer Center Offering Free Nutrition Class for Cancer Patients and Survivors
 
– On the second Wednesday of every month at 1 p.m. at the Monticello Cancer Center. 
 
Topics addressed include benefits of good nutrition, managing eating problems during treatment, how to read food labels and how to eat well after cancer treatment ends.

Becker-Big Lake Hockey - Kids +  Floor Hockey=Fun 
 
– For grades K-5, will be held at the Becker High School Field House April 10, 15, 17, 22, 24 and 29; May 1 - 6, 6-7 p.m. 
 
Open to boys and girls in Becker, Big Lake and surrounding communities. Cost is $40.

Becker Library Teen Advisory Board – April 8. The Becker Library Teen Advisory Board will meet Tues., April 8, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The group will have a cooking session to explore foods from other cultures, using recipes from the library’s book collection. The attendance limit is 20. New teens are welcome. This program is sponsored by the Becker Friends of the Library.
 
Becker Public Schools Art Open House – April 10. The public is invited to enjoy an Art Show beginning Thurs., April 10, 4  p.m. at the Becker Public Library. The artworks on display are projects completed by students at Becker public schools. They will remain on exhibit at the library through April.
 
Music In The Library – April 10. Harpist Colleen Austin will perform in the Becker Public Library on Thurs., April 10, 4 to 6 p.m. Enjoy her performance while browsing the shelves and enjoying the display of artwork by students from Becker public schools. Austin’s performance is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
 
The Deaf Duckling – April 14. The Becker Public Library is hosting a performance of The Deaf Duckling, a Mixed Blood Theatre production, in the Becker Community Center Mon., April 14, at 7 p.m. 
 
The production is an adaptation of a fairytale with a young girl born deaf into a hearing family. It is performed simultaneously in spoken English and American Sign Language. All ages are welcome and there is no registration requirement. This program is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Easter Egg Hunt  Becker Evangelical Free Church
 
-Sat., April 19, 10:30 a.m. Come and have fun and learn about the true meaning of Easter.

Becker PTSA Meeting  
 
-Want to learn more about what is happening in your child's school? Consider getting involved with PTSA and help make a difference in our schools. 
 
We are currently looking for individuals interested in committing 2-3 hours each month. With the number of budget requests that have been received, it is imperative that we receive input from parents, students, staff and community members as we consider each request. Plan to attend the next meeting Mon., April 7 at 3:10 p.m. at the Intermediate Media Center. Discussion will be upcoming events, fundraising ideas, volunteer opportunities, student enrichment and more.

Becker Schools 2014-2015 Calendar Early Bird Sale  
 
-The Becker PTSA announces the calendar will be back again next year showcasing Becker student’s artwork and photos of students. Calendars are available to purchase online on the Becker Schools website-www.becker.k12.mn.us for the early bird price of $8, after June 6, the price is $10 each. Clear Lake Lioness Club
 
 -The Clear Lake Lioness are hosting a special spring group meeting for the Lioness Clubs from Big Lake and Montrose, MN. It will be held at Rejoice Lutheran Church in Clearwater, Tues. evening, April 29.

Mid Minnesota Legal Aid awarded Older Americans Act funds
 
 -to provide legal services for seniors in Sherburne County. The St. Cloud office of Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid has recieved a grant of Older Americans Act funds from the Central Minnesota Council on Aging to provide legal services for seniors residing in Sherburne County. The funds will be used to provide legal advice, counseling and representation in court and administrative hearings. There is no cost for these services.
 
If you are 60 years or older and reside in Sherburne County, you can get help with legal proplems involving Medicare, Social Security, eviction or other housing problems, public benefits, such as medical assistance, food support and fuel assistance, family law issues, including domestic abuse and income maintenance, nursing home problems, home care services, power of attorney, health care directives and debt collection. No help is provided for criminal matters, wills, estate planning, or real estate transactions.
 
Appointments are held at Guardian Oaks Apartments in Elk River, and can be scheduled by calling 763-241-4430. Appointments are also held at the Monticello Senior Center in Monticello, and can be scheduled by calling 763-295-2000. Additionally, seniors can call the St. Cloud office of Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid toll free at 1-888-360-2889.
 
Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid accepts contributions for the legal services, but contributions are not required to receive legal help.
 
 
BECKER SAFETY CAMP
 
April 25 from 1:30 - 6 p.m.  (early out day at school). Becker Fieldhouse. Pizza and snacks provided for kids who have completed third, fourth or fifth grade.
 
Cost is $20 through Community Education.
