Family History Class at Sherburne History Center
Monthly Family History Class will be held Sat., Jan. 27, at 10:30 am. This monthly class is for anyone interested in family history research. Free Winter Events at Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge
Moonlight ski/hike Fri., Feb. 2, from 7-9 p.m., and an afternoon snowshoe/hike on Sun., Feb. 11, from 1-4 p.m. Both events will be held at the Refuge’s Oak Savanna Learning Center, just south of Sherburne Co. Rd. 9. In the event of inadequate snow levels, both events will still be held, but will be hiking events only. To register or for more information, call 763-389-3323 or Sherburne@fws.gov.
31st Annual Sweetheart Dinner
Hosted by Faith Lutheran church Sun. Feb. 11, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Becker Community Center. Turkey and all the trimmings, silent auction and raffle. Tickets are available at the door, $10 for adults, children 5-10 $3, children under 4 are free.
Sherburne History Center Winter Lecture Series
The first presentation featured genealogist and SHC Executive Director Mike Brubaker. Brubaker spoke on the art and architecture of tombstones, focusing on the evolution of symbols found on grave markers and what they mean. The winter lecture series will continue on the second and fourth Wednesdays of February and March at 2 p.m. The next presenter is SHC Program Coordinator Karah Hawkinson, who will present Hands on History: Artifacts You Can Touch. Later programs will feature teacher Renae Elert speaking on Ellis Island, author Jeffrey Williams speaking on Minnesota in the Civil War, and author Colin Mustful talking about his series of books abou the U.S.-Dakota War. The series is free, and all are wlesome to attend.
