Cardboard/Newspaper Collection Drop-off

-Becker Boy Scout Troop 92 invites you to recycle your flattened cardboard, office paper and newspaper.
 
Bring these items to the west side of the Becker Food Pride parking lot Sat., April 5, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
 
Flatten all cardboard.

Becker Lions Annual Pancake Breakfast 
 
­­–will be held at the Becker Community Center, Sun., March 30 8 a.m.-noon.
 
Hosting will be MN Twins mascot T.C. Bear. There will be a silent auction and the  Wellness Wagon will be there.
 
All proceeds will go towards the purchase of new American flags for the City of Becker. Free will offering.
 
 
Freedom Days Committee Meeting
 
­­–is scheduled for Tues., April 8 at 6 p.m. at the Becker Community Center.
 
 
Becker Early Childhood Family  Education 
 
­­–is inviting all interested sellers and shoppers to come to the Becker ECFE garage sale scheduled  for Sat., April 5, 8 a.m.-noon at the Becker Primary School gymnasium (on Hancock St.).
 
Items may include adult and childrens clothing, household items, toys and books. To reserve a spot or for information call 763-261-4050.
 
 
Preschool Storytimes at Becker Library
 
-The Becker Public Library is offering a Preschool Storytime series for children ages 3 to 6 Tuesdays, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.,  April 1, 8, 15 and 22. Storytimes usually involve stories, songs and crafts to build kindergarten readiness in young children. There is no registration requirement.

Great River Regional Library (GRRL) provides library services at 32 public libraries in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright Counties. It provides Central Minnesota residents with nearly 1 million books, CDs and DVDs, 250 public computers, programming and information services.

Friends Of  The Becker Library 
 
–are having their Book and Media Sale at the Becker Library April 23-26. Donations are accepted up until the sale and can be left at the library during regular hours.
 
All proceeds from the sale go towards programs and special needs at the library. Weds, 2-6 p.m; Thurs., 2-8 p.m.; Fri, 2-5 p.m. and Sat., 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

­­–invites the Becker Community to participate in the “Act On Alzheimer” initiative Thurs., April 3 at the Becker Community Center. The will be the first official meeting on this initiative.

Monticello Cancer Center Offering Free Nutrition Class for Cancer Patients and Survivors
 
–on the second Wednesday of every month at 1 p.m. at the Monticello Cancer Center. 
 
Topics addressed include benefits of good nutrition, managing eating problems during treatment, how to read food labels and how to eat well after cancer treatment ends.

HeartSaver CPR
 
-Monticello is offering a HeartSaver CPR class for the public Sat., April 5, 9- 11 a.m. 
 
This American Heart Association course is designed for individuals interested in CPR and AED training. Topics include adult and child CPR and AED, and infant CPR.  Upon completion of this course, the participant will receive a course completion card valid for two years. The cost to attend is $60.

Becker Library Teen Advisory Board – April 8. The Becker Library Teen Advisory Board will meet Tues., April 8, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The group will have a cooking session to explore foods from other cultures, using recipes from the library’s book collection. The attendance limit is 20. New teens are welcome. This program is sponsored by the Becker Friends of the Library.
 
Becker Public Schools Art Open House – April 10. The public is invited to enjoy an Art Show beginning Thurs., April 10, 4  p.m. at the Becker Public Library. The artworks on display are projects completed by students at Becker public schools. They will remain on exhibit at the library through April.
 
Music In The Library – April 10. Harpist Colleen Austin will perform in the Becker Public Library on Thurs., April 10, 4 to 6 p.m. Enjoy her performance while browsing the shelves and enjoying the display of artwork by students from Becker public schools. Austin’s performance is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
 
The Deaf Duckling – April 14. The Becker Public Library is hosting a performance of The Deaf Duckling, a Mixed Blood Theatre production, in the Becker Community Center Mon., April 14, at 7 p.m. 
 
The production is an adaptation of a fairytale with a young girl born deaf into a hearing family. It is performed simultaneously in spoken English and American Sign Language. All ages are welcome and there is no registration requirement. This program is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

World Renowned Speaker Ted Bowman To Speak At Saron Lutheran Church
 
–Weds., April 2 at 7 p.m. and Sat. April 5 9 a.m.
 
The church is located at 311 Lake Street South, Big Lake.
 
Ted Bowman is a family and grief educator who specializes in disruptive changes (diagnosis, divorce, death, change in life circumstances, dismissal ) and the resulting loss and grief.  Many changes, while difficult and challenging are predictable parts of life.  Others break the rules, shattering dreams and hopes, interrupting and changing lives.  
 
The sessions will focus on maintaining resiliency and hope for self and with others when facing these challenges. The focus of the sessions will be the same, but not duplicate.  Attending both is not required but highly encouraged. These are free events that all are welcome to attend.

Living With  Parkinson’s Under  The Age Of 60
 
-If you or anyone you know is 60 or under and has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, you are welcome to join a newly forming group. Meetings are the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8  p.m. at Saron Lutheran Church in Big Lake.

G.A.L.A. Meetings
 
-G.A.L.A. stands for “Get A Life Again”.  This is a group of widows and widowers. They meet twice a month to eat out and socialize. The events are held at different places around the surrounding counties. There are also different card groups that meet monthly.
