Tax Time horseshoe tournament held in Becker

Last Saturday, the final indoor horseshoe tournament for the 2023-24 season was held the Becker courts.

Twenty-four pitchers competed for prize money at the Tax Time Tourney. Russ Girtz and Michelle Foard did a great job of running the seven tournaments for the season.

Class A Division

Marlys Timm, who had previously competed in Class B, qualified for the Class A (The Agents) team and won seven straight games to capture the top class honors. Timm, who lives in Loretto, averaged 44.64% ringers. Three pitchers came from Alexandria and Gary Boots (one of them) won second place with a 49.64% average and a 5-2 record. Brad Heth from Blaine rounded out the money winners, taking third place.

Class B Division

Brian Wipper from Palmer lost his first game and then won six in a row to win Class B (The Auditors). He had an average of 37.14% and a high game of 50% Colin Wanous of Andover also finished 6-1, but Wipper won the tie-breaker. Lance Van Wyhe of Park Rapids finished third.

Class C Division

Bruce Swenson of Garfield too Class C (the Preparers) honors, winning six and losing one. Scott Chalmers finished second at 5-2 and Mike Slininger came all the way from Moorhead to win third place with a 4.5-2.5 record.

Looking ahead, the Santiago Horseshoe Club will start their 35th season outdoors in Santiago around the middle of May. Brian Wipper is returning as Club President.
