Hornets stomp Magic

The Big Lake softball team scored their first conference win of the season last Thursday when they defeated Monticello 7-3.

Sydnie Loftus went the distance, pitching all seven innings while striking out six and allowing zero earned runs.

The Hornet offense jumped on Monticello right away with four runs in the top of the first. Alyssa Windorski scored the first run when Kamrynn Tschritter grounded into a fielder’s choice with her on third. Then Katelyn Chaffee doubled and two more scored and Katlyn Baron drove in the fourth with a single. A Loftus double in the second inning scored two more to extend the lead to 6-0. Tessa Fjone, Windorski, Loftus, and Baron all finished with two hits apiece.

On Saturday the Hornets traveled to Forest Lake for a tournament where they went 2-1. The team took down North St. Paul and Duluth East before losing to Andover.

The first game against North St. Paul finished 7-4, with all seven Big Lake runs coming in the bottom of the third. Loftus threw all five innings for the team, picking up the win.

Against Duluth East, Fjone led the way by pitching a complete game shutout while allowing just two hits and striking out four.

In the third and final game of the day Andover jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings and held on for the win.

Next up for the team is a home game on Thursday against Becker, a Friday trip to Delano, and then back home next Monday against Mound Westonka.
