Hornet wrestlers sweep quad meet

The Big Lake wrestling team continued its outstanding season with three more head-to-head wins in a quad meet Saturday at Eden Prairie.

In the closest match-up, the Hornets defeated Perham, 50-30. Big Lake built an early lead with five straight pins in the lower weight classes.

Big Lake’s Ivan Lapointe pinned Dresden Wegscheid at 1:11 at 106 pounds.

At 113, Cash Stortz pinned Carsen Zeise  of Perham at 0:29.

Cash Sixberry pinned Jonathan Ramos 0:36 at 120 pounds.

At 126, Christian Noble pinned Tiegan Detloff at 1:07.

When Nolan Reiter pinned Nicholas Peters at 2:34 in the 132 pound weight class, Big Lake was ahead, 30-0.

Perham got its first points at 138 when Big Lake’s Luke Schumacher was injured during his match.

But Big Lake came right back at 145 when Dillon Browen pinned Kaden Feldt at 1:46.

Dante Visci of the Hornets followed with a tech fall (20-5) of Trystan Larson at 152 pounds.

At 160, Tyler Dehmer beat Perham’s  Blake Lorentz, 3-0.

Johnathon Murphy followed with a win by forfeit at 170 to give the Hornets an insurmountable 50-6 lead.

Perham got a forfeit win at 182. 

Fourth-ranked Brian Ramos  of Perham pinned Peter Duncombe at 195

Alex Hanrahan lost by fall at 220 and 1:24, as Kane Lapointe at 285 to close out the scoring.

Big Lake defeated Lake City 54-21. Again, the Hornets dominated early in the match.

Ivan Lapointe took a 9-4 decision over Cristofer Ramirez at 106.

At 113, pinned Adrian Lopez Ramirez at 0:23.

Cash Sixberry won by tech fall over Weston Roberson  22-4 at 120 pounds.

At 126, Christian Noble pinned Elijah Dodd at 0:38.

Nolan Reiter pinned Carter West at 1:32 at 132 pounds.

At 138, Zack Smith pinned Grant Asfahl at 0:11.

Then Dillon Browen won by major decision over Aaron Meincke, 12-1 at 145 pounds, and Big Lake was ahead, 36-0.

Luke Becker pinned Big Lake’s Carson Gellerman at 152, and Jonathan Harvey took a close decision over Tyler Dehmer at 160, 7-6 to cut into the lead, 36-9

At 170, Big Lake’s Johnathon Murphy pinned Jayro Rojas at  1:33 to seal the team victory.

Lake City won by forfeit at 182.

At 195, Big Lake’s Peter Duncombe pinned Sam Rol at 3:06.

Alex Hanrahan pinned Lake City’s Jonas Miller at 1:27

At 285, Max Balow of Lake City pinned Kane Lapointe to close out the match.

The Hornets beat a depleted Eden Prairie squad, 66-9. Big Lake won six matches by forfeit. Another match resulted in a double forfeit.

Christian Noble (126), Zack Smith (138), Carson Gellerman (152), Johnathon Murphy (182) and Peter Duncombe (195) each pinned their opponent.

The Hornets wrestled in a dual meet at North Branch Thursday, results to follow next week.
