Hornets fall to 0-4 with loss to Tigers

The Big Lake Hornet football team suffered their fourth straight defeat — this time at the hands of the Delano Tigers on the road Friday night.

Final score was 27-0.

The Hornets were competitive especially in the first quarter where the defense stood tall and kept the Tigers from scoring. However, as soon as Delano’s Cade Bruett warmed up, he started picking apart that same defense starting early in the second quarter.

Bruett drove the Tigers downfield and eventually crossed the goal line on a nine yard run to put Delano up 6-0. Bruett capped off the scoring drive with a TD run for two points to put the home team up 8-0.

Bruett would drive the squad downfield on their next possession and eventually hit Jake Schultz from beyond mid-field to capture another score. Bruett tried to cap the TD with another two-point try, but his pass to Teague Collings fell incomplete and the Hornets were faced with a deficit of 14-0 heading into halftime.

The Tigers added to their lead in the third when Cole Schmidt dove into the end zone from one yard out to have the Tigers go up 21-0 with a successful XP.

The Tigers finished off the Hornets in the fourth when Bruett hit Collings from 16 yards out to complete the scoring at 27-0 (extra point was missed).

Bruett finished with 164 yards through the air on 12-of-16 passing. He also had three runs for 10 yards and the one TD.

Big Lake’s Carson Gellerman struggled against the Tiger defense, completing just two passes out of 10 for 25 yards, Wuoson Nehwah was the team’s top ground gainer with 28 yards on 13 carries.

On defense, Braedyn Wemple had 11 tackles while Nolan Miller had six.
