Girls soccer team drops to 2-8

The Becker Bulldog girls soccer team suffered three losses lately to fall to 2-8.

WM 1, Becker 0

On Sept. 17, the Bulldogs Traveled to Watertown Mayer and played a decent game, but fell to WM by one goal.

Becker senior Rachel Fuller had 17 saves and sophomore Abby Atwood had 17 clearances to keep the Royals at bay.

Sophomore Charlie Ebert had 14 interceptions.

“We had our chances against Watertown Mayer and we couldn’t put them away,” said Becker Head Coach Ben Strom. “We played well overall.”

NB 4, Becker 3

Two days later on Sept. 19, the girls hit the road for North Branch where they lost a thriller, 4-3.

Senior Hailey Szabla scored early and was assisted by senior Liz Mackedanz. Sophomore Charlie Ebert had two goals off free kicks, both beautiful shots from well outside the box.

Fuller had 13 saves and Atwood had 16 clearances while Ebert had 12 interceptions.

“We found ourselves down early in the game and by halftime we were behind 4-1,” said Strom. “We battled well after half time and played a very good North Branch team well beating them in the second half.”

Hornets 1, Bulldogs 0

On Sept. 22, Becker hosted the Hornets of Big Lake but couldn’t dent the scoreboard.

Fuller finished with 19 saves, Atwood had 18 clears and Ebert had 11 interceptions.

“We controlled most of the game and overcame some key injuries well during this game but in the end a long range shot found the back of the net and we didn’t put our chances away,” said Strom. “We were unlucky but the girls showed great heart.”
