Bulldogs rally to knock off Tigers, 24-22

The Bulldog football team knocked off the Class 4A, #1-ranked Hutchinson Tigers on their turf last Friday to improve to 3-1.

Hutchinson came out roaring in Friday’s game as they scored twice in the first quarter to quite the road fans on Becker’s side.The first TD was a 39-yard romp by Levi Teetzel. Teetzel attempted to add to the score with a run for the two-point conversion, but failed.

The second TD came on an 81-yard score from Teetzel to go up 12-0. Teetzel was a bear for the Bulldogs as he rushed for 283 yards on 20 casrries and two scores. Every time he touched the ball, he averaged a little over 14 yards a carry.

QB Logan Butler followed up the Teetzel TD by finding Charlie Renner in the end zone for a successful two-pointer. Just like that, the Tigers were rolling.

But the Bulldogs weren’t ready to put their tails between their legs — far from it.

In the second quarter, an impressive 38-yard successfull field goal by Zach Bengtson put some life in the Bulldogs as they closed the score at 14-3. On Becker’s next possession, Ryan Bengtson found Logan Eisele from 26 yards out to bring the Bulldogs closer at 14-10.

After halftime, Becker finally grabbed onto the lead when Bengtson hit Kyan Blomquist from just outside the goal line to go up 16-10. Zach B. came on and converted the XP to put the score at 17-14.

As the final quarter commenced, the tension on both sides of the stadium escalated and the teams traded jabs until Hutchinson broke through with a TD when AJ Ladwig powered into the end zone from three yards out to give the lead back to the Tigers with eight and half minutes left in the game.

Bengtson was sharp on Becker’s final drive when he navigated the field with precise throws and his quick feet. In the waning moments of the game, The Bulldogs got down to the goal line and Isaiah Gardner barreled into the end zone to give the visitors the lead late with just 4:32 remaining.

With Hutchinson trying to move for a score on their last drive, Dylan Weber sealed the win with a huge sack of Butler to give the Dogs the big win.

Becker amassed 335 yards total — 245 through the air and 90 on the ground — while Hutchinson tallied 285 yards total — all on the ground.

Ryan Bengtson finished the game with 247 yards passing on 19 completions in 35 attempts. Gardner had 61 yards on the ground and one TD.

Blomquist and Alex Weiss each had eight catches on the night, with Blomquist gaining 101 yards while Weiss had 98. Blomquist had the one TD.

On defense, Landen Kujawa had five tackles and two assists. Kaden Nicolas had five tackles and one assist. Weber had two tackles, two assists and one very important sack.
