BL wrestlers do well at Rumble in the Red

The Big Lake wrestling team finished in the top third at the Rumble on the Red in Fargo last Thursday and Friday. They placed 16th of 59 teams at the tournament.

The Hornets did not field a complete team, but had three wrestlers finish in the top eight spots in their weight class.

At 145, Nolan Reiter took second. He beat Kyle Haltensen of St. Francis, 17-4 in his first match. He pinned Callen Whitney of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley at 3:02. He beat Grady Anderson of Jamestown, 10-2 and beat Logan Butzon of Jackson County Central, 7-1. He lost in the championship match to Koy Buesgens of New Prague, 18-6.

At 120, Cash Stortz opened by pinning Landon Zink of West Fargo Sheyenne at 4:00. He pinned Carter Katherman of Waconia at 3:12 before losing to Logan Davis of Albert Lea, 6-5. In consolation matches, he pinned Zane Engels of Northfield at 0:57 before losing to Mason Nelson of Mora, 2-0. He came back to beat Corbin Zent of Rapid City Stevens, 5-4 in his final match.

At 285, Kane Lapointe pinned Curtis Maegi of Mora at 1:56 in his first match. He beat Marcus Peterson of United North Central, 5-2 before falling to Carter Geerts of Byron. In consolation matches, he pinned Dalton Darby of Jamestown at 4:32, lost by pin to Justin Blascyk of West Central Area before pinning Amaree Williams of West Fargo at 5:22 in his final match.

At 182, John Murphy won his only two matches. He pinned Jackson Green of Waconia at 0:23. He beat Coy Olsen of Bemidji, 13-4, but ended his competition by medical default and could not continue.

The Hornets wrestled against St. Francis Thursday and competed in an invitational at Eden Prairie on Saturday, results to follow next week.
