Lynden Twp. considers new 5-year road plan

The agenda for Lynden Twp.’s February meeting was filled with old and new business, most of which the board was able to get through quickly. These included:

• Supervisor Dennis Niemi reviewed the concept of a five-year road plan with SHE and obtained a verbal quote. The plan involves developing a map and potential costs associated with a project which will help with budget planning. A motion carried not to exceed $2,000 for the year.

• Twp. Attorney Michael Couri provided a sample road right of way ordinance for the board to review. A motion carried to set aside February 15 as a working session to review the proposed ordinance and possibly reconcile it with the township’s current Ordinance 12.

• A motion carried authorizing dust control from Central Minnesota Dust Control up to $53,000.

• Schendzielos provided pricing for 2022 maintenance. Clerk Jenny Schmidt will prepare a contract and submit it for review prior to the March meeting.

• Niemi will follow up with Schendzielos concerning two signs that were damaged during ditch mowing last fall. Forty additional signs within the township are scheduled to be replaced.

• Official Twp. Building Inspector Nancy Scott continues to work with Jerry Konz on the requirement needed to settle the building encroachment on property line issue on Hubble Road.

• Quotes for central air and an HVAC system have been obtained. Niemi will obtain quotes for replacing the furnace and will contact the building inspector regarding any necessary permits.

• A motion carried authorizing the expenditure of $213 plus any other materials necessary to complete the township’s storage project.

• The City of Clearwater Fire Commission reviewed last year’s call report and budget numbers during their January meeting. The Fire Dept. needs additional firefighters; contact city hall if interested.

• The agenda for the March 8 Annual Meeting is finalized; a motion carried to recommend Lynden Twp. residents pass a proposed 2023 levy of $592,438.

• A motion carried appointing election judges and absentee ballot board members.

• A motion carried approving the Tri-County Humane Society contract for 2022 with additional language stating a $350 annual cap and no seized animals.

• The local board of Equalization and appeals meeting will be on April 12 at 6 p.m.

• The next Lynden Twp. Board meeting will be March 7 at 7 p.m.
