LPI plants new trees at Becker City Park

On Wednesday, Liberty Paper Inc. (LPI) in conjunction with Becker City planted 16 trees at Becker City Park.

Every year, LPI does an environmental outreach project with Becker Schools, but this year, they were unable to do so, due to COVID-19 restrictions. So LPI reached out to the city to find another way to give back to the community. Chris Lisson of the public works dept. suggested tree planting, among other things, and Kristie Frydlund of LPI thought that project was a good fit for her team of volunteers. Planting trees was the perfect way for Becker’s paper company to give back.

“It was a perfect day for planting trees,” said Frydlund, despite the wind and cool temperatures. “We would have done it if it was raining, though we might not have had such cheery attitudes!”

Chuck Legatt, LPI plant manager, said, “It wasn’t planned this way, but today is the 26th anniversary of Liberty Paper. This has been a great project. We really appreciate the good relationship we have with the city.”

Lisson mentioned that the project was a great way to leave a legacy.

“It was a COVID gift,” he said.
