In-person events are finally returning to libraries in the Great River Regional Library System this fall, and libraries in Clearwater, Becker, and Big Lake are excited to see their patrons return.
The libraries are encouraging registration, as rooms as limited in size. Social distancing measures will be in place at all programs, and patrons are asked to please stay home when sick.
Clearwater is offering two events in Oct.. First, a Legacy event, Taiko Arts Midwest will be performingSat., Oct. 2 from 10 to 11 a.m. The group performsJapanese Taiko drums and shares the history and culture of their art.
Second, parents will be happy to hear that story times will also resume and will be heldWed., Oct. 6 and Wed., Oct. 20 from 6 to 6:45 p.m.
Story time has also returned to the Becker Library, starting with their regular Tuesday morning time at 10:30 a.m. Weather permitting, story times will be taking place outside, so patrons are encouraged to dress for the weather. New this fall, Becker is also offering Starry Night Family Story TimeOct. 7 and Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.
Book Club in Becker will be held in-person once again, startingMonday, Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m. The book selection for the month is Every Bone a Prayer by Ashley Blooms. This program is also being held outside, weather and daylight permitting, as well.
The Becker Library is also hosting a scavenger hunt throughout the month of Oct., as well as offering two other in-person events: Artist Inspired Jack-o-Lantern Class and Boo-a-pa-looza. During the Jack-o-Lantern Class, kids aged 6 to 12 will learn about the art styles of other artists, then using the artist of their choice, they will create their own jack-o-lantern using construction paper and other supplies. The event will be heldOct. 7 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and is sponsored by the Friends of the Becker Library. Registration is required.
Boo-a-pa-looza promises to be a fun night at the Becker Library, with a spooky themed inside story stroll and craft. Costumes are encouraged. This event will be heldOct. 25 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and is for all ages. Sponsored by the Friends of the Becker Library, registration is required.
Big Lake is also happy to offer in-person events once again. The library is continuing to hold their Friday morning story times at 10:30 a.m. andOct. 26 is offering a new Tuesday morning story time at 10:30 a.m. as well.
The Big Lake Library is offering three other events for Oct., Mixed Nuts, Upcycle a Canister, and Glass Mosaic class with Laura Ruprecht. Mixed Nuts is a fun, family comedy show with uproarious audience participation. Fun for the whole family, registration is required. Mixed Nuts is sponsored by the Friends of the Big Lake Library and will be heldOct. 9 from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Glass Mosaic Class with Laura Ruprecht will be heldOct. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. Patrons aged 10 and up will learn about the unique art of glass mosaic work with instructions from Laura Ruprecht. All supplies will be provided to create a glass mosaic to take home. This is a Legacy event and registration is required.
Lastly, in the Upcycle a Canister class, teens and tweens will decorate old snack containers to use for storage or gift boxes. HeldOct. 13 from 4 to 5 p.m., registration is required. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Big Lake Library.
